It is one of those amazing natural dichotomies. You look out the window and the sky is a shadowless blue backdrop for the brightly shining sun. Your mind registers warmth. You want to step outside, feel the rays touch your skin.
It’s an illusion. There’s no walking anywhere today. No outdoor recess. No sledding, snowman building or skating. It is too cold to be outside – even bundled. Any exposed skin feels the sting after only a few moments.
But there is, in the shimmering beams that penetrate the glass, a promise of spring.
