Reading Recommendations

An adult student stopped by my desk and asked for a recommendation of something to read.  My head filled with hundreds of books.  He could not narrow down a genre.

It’s interesting list to make.  What do all these books say about me?  (In no particular order – except Hemingway is always first – and off the top of my head.)

A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carrol

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Welcome to the Monkey House by Kurt Vonnegut

Robot Visions by Isaac Asimov

Proof by Dick Francis

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell

The Art of War by Sun-tzu

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig

Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow

Cicero by Anthony Everitt

A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson

Socrates Cafe by Christopher Phillips

And when I feel like poetry I read Shakespeare or Whitman or Frost or lately I look up blogs and read the newest posts – there are many beautiful poets to be found in cyberspace.

What is on your list?
