Meditation helps our physical training by allowing us to be present in the moment and listen to our bodies.
We do a drill which breaks down the separate elements of a kick. Our Sabonim will sometimes have us hold the kick in the air, examining our technique while testing our balance.
We struggle to maintain our position; not hop, or drop our leg, or worse case, fall.
“Lift through your spine.” He instructs. “Breathe.”
You need to let go of all those other things pressing, distracting or weighing you down. Feel that ascension as your mind and body come together.
And then we can take the exercise home with us, using it as a model for all activity in which we want to be fully present.
