If you would like to feel young again, there is nothing quite like sitting across a desk from a teacher. Even when everything is generally good – there is always something more, something better that could be done.
Parent-teacher conferences bring it all back. Sitting in those small chairs, trying hard not to fidget, going over what my children are and are not doing, what they are good at and what they need help with, brought to the forefront all my responsibilities, primarily as a parent, but also as a future teacher.
It’s easy to be defensive, discouraged and negative. Simple to let things lazily slide by. Much harder to focus on the good, embrace challenges, generate enthusiasm and encourage something more, something better.
