A Birthday Gift

Trying not to listen to the pundits while sitting with Dad.

They are unsettling, gloomy and depressing.  It’s hard to say whether they are alarmist or realistic, even harder to find the line between truth and bias. There are a vast array of problems to talk about but few fixes, ideas or solutions.  Plenty of blame, however, to go round.

When I am feeling unsettled, gloomy and depressed, I try to meditate (doesn’t work too well yet), and I take class – expelling the negative and listening for the positive – from instructors, classmates and sometimes even myself.

And I wish I could give America a class for it’s birthday.  Something to help us focus on the positive, on now, on happiness despite the traumas, unfairness and struggles of day to day, on moving forward, and on hope.
