A Work in Progress

Starting over

Gives you an edge.

Knowing where the trees

Have been felled

Makes it easier

To plot a course around them

or perhaps,

Incentive to pack your ax.

(from On the Way to Ei Dan Bo)

January has been an exercise in perseverance. Every day muscling through to the next. But as I practiced my forms early this morning, I was again reminded that things can get better. We keep working. Eventually we turn our heads first, land our stances, and stop hesitating between each move. Over time we build strength, learn what to let go and what to hold, and see where we need to improve.

Using a little perspective, we also make note of how far we’ve come – by not giving up and continuing to practice.
